I reviewed a dream car of mine! ('69 Mach 1)

The best looking mustang in my mind has always been the 1969 Sportsroof (I still prefer the Fastback name). When I reviewed the Foxbody the owner of said F oxbody said there was a 1969 Mach 1 in their club, and he asked me if I would be interested in reviewing that. I said yes, but in the back of my mind I doubted I was going to be given the opportunity. A 50 year old icon, my FAVORITE body style and as I later discovered, a 363 stroker with a 5 speed manual transmission. It was a dream in more than one way.

As the video (and the title) give away it happened, I drove it. I could get on it. The car even had AC which was needed at the time we reviewed the car. It also held all the condensation inside, which promptly leaked out when the car was stationary. I still dislike condensation drips from any other car including my own. I always check for that signature coolant smell, but sigh in relief when it’s just water.

The story behind the car is one that spans 3 generations, and that is amazing. Not unlike the 1965 fastback I reviewed a few years back. Old cars just have soul. Something a newer car will never have off the showroom floor. They still need to write their own story.

What is your opinion about The 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1?

Defi nitely one of my favorites. I knew a guy that had a ‘69 coupe that I wanted. As far as I know, he still has it.

I know a guy with a ‘69 coupe as well, he did a restoration himself on it. It’s a good driver and it sounds great too. My favorites are the sportsroofs though. Hard to argue with the epic lines of a “Fastback” car!

I turo’d a 70 mach 1 big block for a few days last week. Too cold to really enjoy it. The 428 hated the teens and twenties. Thank god for fuel injection. Turo pic for your time. I didnt take any pictures or video of the car. I think my wife did. I prefer the older ones

That is dead sexy too. I still prefer the ‘69 over the ‘70. I am just a bit surprised that a car like that ended up on Turo. I’d think long and hard who I would allow to drive mine if I had one. And because of that I feel extremely fortunate to have been given the chance to not only drive one but put cameras all over it while I did so. It is no doubt a high point in the hobby for me. Sadly though, the video is under performing like no tomorrow. I am saddened by that. It’s a cool car. Guess not what everyone else is into anymore... But I am willing to bet ThatDudeInBlue’s review on one would be a runaway hit. Sometimes it truly sucks to be on the bottom of the totem pole when it comes down to being a hobbyist YouTuber. You just don’t have that reach.

Though not my ultimate dream car, the Mach 1 was, the first car I was aware of when it came out (“as in here is a cool new car this adolescent boy really wants”). Somebody drove a dark blue one to church, I covet ed.

To me any sportsroof ‘69 will do, it doesn’t even have to be a Mach. Viper blue was the color I wanted most next to Highland Green. Both options non factory colors for ‘69.

The color of the one I reviewed is extremely nice too though... It really brings out the lines, and the graphics go great with it!

The green looks really good-they got the package right with the Mach 1, sharp looking car.

He was super nervous about letting me take it. I wad his first ever Turo rental! The weather wasnt the best and I could tell it was his baby. I reassured him when I left him my ex’s Gallardo to drive. I drive lots of exotics, not so many muscle cars. So it was a newish experience.

So what was your opinion other than driving it in too cold weather? Did you feel like a cool dude rolling down the street?

Absolutely, it sounds like the cars from the old movies, especially when you get on it. The flyby at the beginning of the video was my favorite of the car. The pause between each shift, and then the rumble starts again! It’s amazing!

I didnt feel cool. I am generally awkward a person... More out of place. Lots of attention. But honestly, it felt like an old car. Lots of character. Not sure what else to say about it. It was loud, smelled like gas, old oil, stale cigarettes. Kinda comfortable. Didnt feel very safe, though everyone left a wide berth.

You definitely get noticed more. I really wonder what that new mustang thought when that classic 1969 Mach just flew past him out of nowhere.

I feel very relaxed driving old cars for some reason. With an undertone of “please don’t let me encounter the token dumb-ass on the phone”, although that is highly diminished due to all my reviews being shot in the AM on Saturday or Sunday. I think rush hour would be a nightmare for me. You are hyper aware of your surroundings, that’s for sure!
